I think representation is something that's absolutely needed. I felt like with K-pop being so hot, we could leverage that to potentially do something bigger with music in the States that people could latch onto.
There's something bigger than improvised music versus pop music versus something else. What actually succeeds in being communicated are human feelings, things that people can latch onto and say, "Yeah, I feel like that sometimes." It can be inspiring or it can be something that keeps you sane when you're not feeling well.
Saying you're a pop group isn't saying very much. Personally, when I think of pop, I think of instant, accessible, catchy songs - I definitely identify our music as that. I think that by writing pop, or instant, accessible or hopefully catchy music, it shoes you into bigger audiences because it seems that more people like that music. I think pop music, for me as a kid, I hated school and ran home to watch Britney Spears videos. I just felt like I could forget about the stuff I didn't like about my life and listen to pop music and escape.

You have everything you need, my mother had told me. And maybe all I needed was the courage to admit that what I needed was someone to lean on.
There's something about that idea of looking up and hoping, and thinking, 'I'm good.' Some things, like show business, are absolutely subjective. People look at a TV show and think, 'I could do that.' And maybe they could do that. But they're not.
