I prefer scoring goals, but when I am playing out on the right, I tend to come inside and provide assists, but I also like playing on the left, and I think if that is where I play, then I will have more chance of scoring - but I just hope I can help the team score goals with my assists.
I'm more than comfortable just sitting back and scoring 21, 22 points or whatever and getting 10, 11 assists whatever the case might be. More than comfortable with that. It's just a matter of the pieces that you have around you and what you can do to elevate everybody else.
I've always been known more for giving assists than scoring - but of course, I enjoy scoring goals, too.
It seems like teams want a guy who can get 10, 11, 12 assists. That's the kind of player I want to be. Sometimes that is more important than scoring 30 points a night.
Hopefully, I can keep scoring more goals, make more assists, break more records and help my team, which is the most important thing.
Ideally, I would like to be in a position where I represent 100 guys in the NFL, to be in a position where I could control whether some teams win or lose.
But talking about goals and scoring and assists, you can never predict anything. I will just do my best to work hard and hopefully that helps the team to win the games. That's the only thing I'm focused on.
I think that the game has gotten faster, so it's more position-less more so than position, and it's about fit and how pieces fit together and having teams match up to you more so than matching up to teams.
You never have enough competition at any position, ... Several of the players listed at right wing have played center in the NHL, like Trevor Linden. Some can play both wings. I've been skating on a line with the Sedin twins. They are a lot more skilled than some people give them credit. Look at their point totals and they are right up there in their point-per-minute averages. My job will be to complement them and try to get our line to provide secondary scoring behind the big line of Naslund, Bertuzzi and Morrison. Those guys look good and I expect they'll be the top line in the NHL again.
Scoring a lot of points is not a goal of mine. I just do whatever I do best to help my team win. I'm a role player.
NBA teams like to see guys who can help a team win a game in a lot of fashions.
I'm so blessed to have a chance to play 15 years in one spot. I know my position is different than most. But even in my position, guys that have played it this long, have probably already been with two or three different teams.
I think England are probably not as streetwise as plenty of other teams. The other top teams know how to keep a victory or do certain things to hang on to leads or get back in games. They're a lot more streetwise than us. I think as a nation we are very honest, we try to win the right way.
I'm extremely willful to win, and I respond to challenges. Scoring titles and stuff like that... it sounds, well, I don't care how it sounds - to me, scoring comes easy. It's not a challenge to me to win the scoring title, because I know I can.
Usually, I can get the job done with guys in scoring position.
I feel more satisfaction - and attach greater value - to providing assists then scoring myself.
