Oh, Fortuna, you capricious sprite! — © John Kennedy Toole
Oh, Fortuna, you capricious sprite!
A story, to me, has a particular sprite, like the angel of the spirit of that story - and it's my job to attend to what it wants to do. When I tell the story of Cinderella, the sprite does not want me to make it into an allegory of the fall of communism. The sprite would be unhappy if I did that.
I think being an editor really helped me take other people's notes on my writing. I'd get a note like 'It's too wet' or 'The first couple chapters are good, but then the rest of the pages were so wet that they were completely illegible' or 'Did you dip this in Sprite? This smells like Sprite. Why would you dip your novel in Sprite?' And instead of pushing back, I'd listen. That's an incredibly important skill for a young writer to have.
I like Sprite a lot, but I try not to drink it. My mom doesn't want me to drink Sprite because it's unhealthy. So she always has me drink water, but it's hard not to!
It's not that stock prices are capricious. It's that the news is capricious.
Oh, Fortuna, blind, heedless goddess, I am strapped to your wheel,' Ignatius belched, 'Do not crush me beneath your spokes. Raise me on high, divinity.
I put out a good 10 different types of drinks for them and they just said, "Oh, okay, so it's just one choice." One choice? I gave you Coke, Pepsi, Ginger Ale, Sprite. They saw that as one choice. Now why was that one choice? Because they felt, well, it was just all soda.
The Greeks understood perfectly that if there were divine beings they are capricious, unkind, malicious mostly, temperamental, envious and mostly deeply unpleasant because that you can say well yes, all right, if there is going to be god or gods then you have to admit that they're very at the very least capricious. They're certainly not consistent. They're certainly not all loving.
I could imagine playing for Fortuna.
Fortuna likes to find a crowd and follow it.
La fortuna juega a favor de una mente preparada
Audaces fortuna iuvat (latin)- Fortune favors the bold.
Fortuna smiles and frowns according to a timetable surprising even to herself.
People can expect a career-best performance from me against Fortuna.
The Feast of Fortuna had nothing to do with tuna, which was fine with Percy.
Fortuna is tricky, he's a southpaw like me. But you've got to adapt to whatever is in front of you.
People say it's a bit repetitive to say, 'Oh oh oh oh oh oh,' but you can't translate the melody into words.
