My fear is getting stuck doing the same thing over and over. — © Mike Patton
My fear is getting stuck doing the same thing over and over.
I want to grow. I don't want to get stuck doing the same thing over and over and think I'm the best at it.
Being stuck in a rut can kill your creativity, stress you out, and zap your productivity. Doing the same thing over and over again causes your days to blend together.
The danger in playing a piece over and over again lies in getting stuck in a rut where you don't ask questions anymore and you always play it the same way.
Sometimes you can get stuck doing the same kind of thing over and over again, and then there's a certain moment in your life when you say, 'Wait, there's all this other stuff in me and all this other life.'
You don't break ground by doing the same thing over and over and over. That's like standing in place. You have to risk to gain it all.
I prefer to have longevity. I like as great a variety as possible, hopefully to avoid getting stuck in one kind of character, having to do it over and over again. I seek to challenge myself as an actor - and at the same time support my family.
If I'm really considering doing film from now on then that is the smart thing to do, or you can go either way. You can just do the same character over and over again and make a different comedy like over and over again.
I want to work on projects that I feel passionate about and do things that are fun and challenging. I would love to do a live musical. I'm not interested in doing the same thing over and over or the fame and exposure that comes with it. When people keep doing that, they just end up doing the same dumb stuff again and again.
If you're stuck in a rut doing the same thing over and over again, what are you actually, really achieving? I'm someone who strives for success, for self-growth and new experiences, and to make a record that pushes me out of my comfort zone is something that's really exciting. It means you're making new decisions, you're making bold decisions, you're being scared, and you're getting through that - hopefully making something you're proud of, or being in a better position that makes you feel stronger as a human being.
That's the thing about fear. Death will kill you once, but fear kills you over and over and over, if you let it.
There is this awkward discomfort when you're doing comedy on camera because people aren't allowed to laugh so that they can get a clean take and you're doing the same thing over and over again.
You know ... you keep doing the same things and you keep getting the same result over and over again.
I don't think there's a ton of new new stuff about doing a sitcom or doing a multi-camera show, but they work. They're fun, and they're energetic, and they're short. And when you fall in love with one - like, I will watch Seinfeld, I'll watch Will & Grace, all those reruns. I just can never get enough. I watch the same ones over and over and over. I watch the same movies that make me laugh over and over and over. I was hoping to be part of something like that.
You don't want to get into doing the same thing, over and over again. I know I don't.
I don't want to keep doing the same thing over and over for the rest of my life.
Doing the same thing over and over again can be boring, I want to explore as much as I can.
