I've been trying to reassert myself as a human and not just a current events story. I should not be the face of online harassment.
Online harassment, especially gendered online harassment, is an epidemic. Women are being driven out; they're being driven offline. This isn't just in gaming. This is happening across the board online, especially with women who participate in or work in male-dominated industries.
A big barrier to people getting help with online harassment is the general attitude either that it's not a real issue - that it's 'only' online - or that it's limited to someone saying they don't like you, and all of that stems from a basic misunderstanding of what we mean when we say 'online harassment.'
The struggles of dealing with online harassment is the same harassment that women have been dealing with, it's just a new medium in which it's happening.
One story I've been trying to write for years, and haven't been able to finish, is about a face I saw, just a glimpse of a face, in a max security prison in North Carolina. I'm still trying to understand what I saw in that guy's face.
I'm fascinated by current events and the privilege of trying to share it with other people and tell a story.

If you look at photojournalism, it's largely driven by current events... always chasing a crisis or disaster. I follow a narrative that is much looser than current events.
When it comes to how I portray myself online, I'm trying to be as real as I can and show people every side of what I do and not just put up selfies online of me in full done-up make up and stuff.
Workplace harassment and gender discrimination exist in all spheres, not just films. I have been lucky enough not to face it, but I don't deny its existence.
It is a fact of history and of current events that human beings exaggerate, misinterpret, or wrongly remember events. They have also fabricated pious fraud. Most believers in a religion understand this when examining the claims of other religions.
Really study what types of formats have been working online that you resonate with: get a feel for what works in the current ecosystem of online video. Sometimes, that passion-project you really want to do is not the way to start.
That has been my entire life story, running against the current and running with the current. Sometimes running with the current is underestimated.
I've always wanted to do more significant stuff. I think of myself as well-informed, but the hardest thing to do is talk about politics and current events and be funny and not just preachy.
That has been my entire life story. Running against the current and running with the current. Sometimes running with the current is underestimated. The acceptance of certain realities doesn’t preclude idealism. It can lead to certain breakthroughs.
