Well, I think that there's a value to comedy in and of itself.
I do mostly comedy, and it tends to be a subtler comedy. But I think that probably lends itself well to commercials.
Here's my take, for what it's worth: I think that a lot of people in the US, as well as other countries, have the idea that animation is primarily for children, and kids like to be entertained! And animated films here tend to have crazy fantastic situations that would be difficult to do in live action, like with talking animals or monsters or whatnot, and that lends itself well to comedy, I think.
I fit well in the comedy zone. A plump and chubby figure goes well with most onscreen characters... it adds more value to what I say.
The essence of all jokes, of all comedy, seems to be an honest or well intended halfness; a non performance of that which is pretended to be performed, at the same time that one is giving loud pledges of performance. I think that there's a fine line between comedy and drama. Well, I don't think I've ever been a huge target for the press, and I value that to a degree, because there's a certain value for actors staying beneath the radar so they can play characters.
The arts community still has a long lasting cynicism of the importance, or the artistic value, of comedy. Comedy is just farting about for money.
Most of the time, my favorite drama has comedy in it as well. I think most good dramas have comedy in there. And all of the dramatic actors I look up to are also very funny.
Changes in our aesthetic tastes have no value or meaning in and of themselves; what has value and meaning is the idea of change itself. Or, better stated: not change in and of itself, but change as an agent or inspiration of modern creations.
I value comedy. I value somebody who can be funny.
