It takes time to settle in and learn a new formation and style of play. — © Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
It takes time to settle in and learn a new formation and style of play.
You can probably ask any actor: every time you start a new film, it's literally like your first movie. Everyone, regardless of the filmmaker being a debutant or a veteran, takes their time to settle down when you begin the shoot together. It's like all of us have moved into a new house, and we are setting up the place.
Especially a new role, it takes a long time for me to settle into a role but it's exciting as well.
I think it takes time to find your natural style and learn not to be swayed by trends that might not flatter you.
My style of play has always been 'Guardiola style,' so I've not had too many problems. At the same time, he helps you to evolve and to change little things, because it's obviously not exactly the same style of play as at Bilbao.
I have a hard time memorizing stuff. I'm always in the process of writing a new song, so trying to learn a new one takes a minute.
Football is a really simple game, and the most important thing, in any formation, is that the players do their jobs, not the formation which they play in.
I have to learn sometimes 25 pages at a time. The takes can last 20 minutes - we do big, long takes. You always hope that you get a couple of days in between so you can learn the next one because you can't keep everything in your head at the one time.
I used to play football all the time. In the U.S., people don't play football, so I had to learn basketball. Looking back, that's what I like about my life - doing new things, having a new perspective.
It's difficult to play in a new formation and have everyone grasp it straight away.
You cannot have a situation where you think that if you want to attack, then you play this formation, and if you want to defend, then you play this formation.
Meditation takes discipline, just like learning how to play piano. If you want to learn how to play the piano, it takes more than a few minutes a day, once a while, here and there. If you really want to learn any important skill, whether it is playing piano or meditation, it grows with perseverance, patience, and systematic training.
I never wanted to be a movie star because it takes up too much of your time. I prefer the style of touring and making new music.
I love to learn new things, even though I might not master it. That takes a lot of time.
My [singing] style really has no style, because I try to sing each number differently. I’ve always believed that if style takes precedent over the words and music, the audience get’s cheated. It’s like when people see a fine play or movie. They imagine themselves in the leading role. I want them to imagine that they’re singing - not just listening to someone else.
I learn more with each film, and I gain confidence in my style of working. But at the same time, each one is a new monster.
What you have felt and thought will by itself invent a new style, so that when people talk about style they are always a little astonished at the newness of it, because they think that it is only style that they are talking about, when what they are talking about is the attempt to express a new idea with such force that it will have the originality of the thought. It is an awfully lonesome business, and, as you know, I never wanted you to go into it, but if you are going into it at all, I want you to go into it knowing the sort of things that took me years to learn.
