You are going to be what you put in your body, so I try to teach that to my kids, and the kids around me.
If you're a teacher you have to teach the curriculum, all that stuff, you have to teach morals, you have to teach values, and you have to teach, all-importantly, self-control. Because a lot of kids don't have it.
There is an old saying that you're a product of your environment. Parents can only do so much when eight hours of the day is spent at school. As parents, we try to teach our kids to be respectful to others and teach them old values, but a lot of it is down to the schools.
The hardest part about this business is being away from the kids. But what I hope to teach him - and what I hope to teach all kids that are kind of looking at this - is that to achieve anything, it takes a lot of sacrifice.
You look at the NBA: there's all these young kids that are drafted on potential. They go to bad teams, they're in bad locker rooms, and now we got this analytics stuff that doesn't teach kids how to play. We've got these workout coaches that don't teach kids how to play basketball.
I try to always be open to what the actors want to try. I don't storyboard and try to be intuitive and open on the day of filming.
As parents, we teach our kids about things we feel competent in. That's why so many parents don't teach their kids about money.
I've always said that with kids' TV that people get stuck in it from drama school but that's not fair because I know myself that when you go in creatively, kids are so much more open to ideas. You're so much freer to mess about and try things.
We go old-school during the summer, like swimming or setting up lemonade stands. I try to teach my kids to make their own fun.
We don't give federal grants to tobacco companies to teach students 'low-risk' forms of smoking on the grounds that 'kids are going to smoke anyway.' We shouldn't be giving federal grants to groups that sell contraception, to teach kids to use contraception.
We've got to do a better job with our kids. Teach good values, teach the fundamentals.
[Kids] don't remember what you try to teach them. They remember what you are.
The side of fairytales I don't like is that they always have happy endings, that there's just good and evil, and things are perfect. But life is a little more complicated, and that's what I try to teach my kids.
A good play can teach so much about culture. One can also improvise a lot with the medium and use it to teach kids.
For kids, it's best to teach them how to fold their clothes first. Kids will be able to fold their clothes at about three years old. You don't want to teach them how to put away toys first because it's difficult. Clothes are something kids wear every day, so it's easy for them to have a sense about their belongings.
I'll teach my kids right from wrong, but I'm never going to teach them that they can't have fun. They'll make mistakes; they'll do things they regret, like we all have.
