I deserved the National Award for 'Border,' but got it for 'Refugee.'
When it comes to immigration, I have actually put more money, under my administration, into border security than any other administration previously. We've got more security resources at the border - more National Guard, more border guards, you name it - than the previous administration. So we've ramped up significantly the issue of border security.
I find awards frivolous. When I began my career, I was told that I deserved an award for a certain performance, but then I couldn't turn up on the day of the show. Then I was told that the award went to someone else. That's when I realised the truth behind it all.
I got my name, fame, identity and even my National award from Bengali cinema.
I hate to tell you this, but I did not know what the National Book Award was when I got the call.
I have never won a single award - National or Filmfare - and I just hope they don't give me a Lifetime Achievement Award because I won't accept it.
I never thought I would get a National Award. For me, it was huge, and I got complacent.
Too much of the national conversation about trade and the border comes from people who have not had the opportunity to step foot in border cities like San Diego.
If I was in a refugee camp somewhere on the Pakistani border, of course I'd want to come to Australia.
The border sheriffs are locally elected. They're accountable. They know the territory and the people. And they can respond the most quickly to what is a real national security emergency, because the border is unprotected
I got my first lifetime achievement award years ago, and I was very excited, but then I got a sense of: Well, can one get a second lifetime award?
An award, to me, means a bonus. It's not that an actor works for an award. I don't work for an award. But, when you get an award, it is encouraging and inspiring and reminds you that you need to do well.
People are dying to get a National Award... it's a national reputation.
Obviously he deserved that Finals MVP award. He is a great talent and he is a huge reason why we are celebrating.
We need to secure our southern border. Clearly, the southern border is now a nexus between immigration and national security. It's a sieve.
Apart from the National Film Awards, I don't see any other award ceremony that I should give value to. My personal experience about these award ceremonies is that I don't trust them. I have no faith in them so I would prefer to stay away.
My idea was always to start with a small press and then move up to a national press. I had those goals for my career from the time I was a very young woman. I wanted to win a local award, then I wanted a state or national award. Small press, big press. Some women fantasize about their weddings, their husbands, and children. I fantasized about what I wanted to accomplish with my books.
