I have something called exercise bulimia, which is where you rid of your calories by over-exercising.
Becoming the new feminine ideal requires just the right combination of insecurity, exercise, bulimia and surgery.
I didn’t and don’t want to be a ‘feminine’ version or a diluted version or a special version or a subsidiary version or an ancillary version, or an adapted version of the heroes I admire. I want to be the heroes themselves.
Everybody knew about the bulimia in the family. And they all blamed the failure of the marriage on the bulimia and it's taken them time to think differently. I said I was rejected, I didn't think I was good enough for this family, so I took it out on myself. I could have gone to alcohol. I could have been anorexic. I chose to hurt myself instead of hurting all of you.
In the '80s, I did two hours of cardio every day, split between running and the stationary bike. It was a trap - afterward I'd feel starving but also bulletproof, so I'd pig out. I slid into what I call exercise bulimia, when you're running more and more miles so you can eat worse and worse food.
I'm too old to be a yuppie.
It was very enticing to become a yuppie, but I didn't want to do that.

Exercise helps my back. If I don't exercise, that's when it starts to hurt. The pain is a good motivator to run and exercise.
A Yuppie is someone who believes it's courageous to eat in a restaurant that hasn't been reviewed yet.
The magical approach is indeed the natural approach to life's experience. It is the adult version of childhood knowledge, the human version of the animals' knowledge, the conscious version of 'unconscious' comprehension.
I'll exercise in spurts, usually inspired by a dress that I have to fit into. But once that gown is squeezed into, if I continue to exercise, I get sick or I pull my back. For some reason my body literally rejects exercise.
