I've never been one of those guys who is going to hold out and wait for a title shot.
An interim title is just a guarantee at a title shot. If I'm going to fight the best guys in the world, I want a guarantee that I'm going to fight for the title.
I'd rather have too many good guys than not enough. It's a nice problem. They sort themselves out because when guys fight each other, they determine who deserves the title shot, not me.
I've never been one of those 'quantity' guys. I'm not one of those guys who puts out a record every year whether it's any good or not.
The title shot, the way I look at it is I just have to go out there and do my job. If I keep winning fights, there's no way they can't give me that title shot.
I can get a title shot any time I want to. They know I can beat 110% of the champions out there right now. I just have to be motivated. Most of them are going to be trying to not give me a shot.
I think any time you bring those guys in, one with a lot of playoff experience, with rings - those guys won - guys in the locker room gravitate towards those guys. Those guys have been there, so there's a lot that they can teach the guys.
There are some guys that can roll out of bed and they can throw 96 from the very first outing. I've just never been one of those guys.
Any time you get a title shot, you always try to wait for it the best you can.
I'm going to get paid the most if I fight for a title or hold a title. That's when all of the big opportunities come.
I’m familiar with a lot of guys, hang out with those guys. A couple of my teammates actually went to Florida, so I’m familiar with a lot of those guys. It's going to be fun walking out with a victory and rubbing it in their faces.
Sometimes guys will come out and just barely squeak by to get a win and then wonder why they don't get a title shot. Who wants to see that?
You can lead with or without a title. If you wait until you get a title, you may wait forever.
I'm not going to change who I am or the way I promote fights just to get a title shot, but I think I've done plenty to earn that shot.
In going for the last shot of the game most people wait too long to take the shot. Give yourself a chance to get the first shot and tap the ball in. Your players are normally inside the defense.
It makes me very, very happy to get someone a world title shot, which I've done with a few fighters, or a European title shot or a British title, and I see them lift that belt above their waist and they come to me and say 'Thanks Ricky. I've just paid my mortgage off with that.' That's what its all about.
There's no point in fighting guys when there's no structure, there's no rhyme or reason to who gets the title shot.
