The US Navy has several people on every ship that can navigate by the stars. They don't fool with that.
One of the problems in the Navy is that tradition of being captain of the ship. And an awful lot of people can be retired in the Navy, get over it, get a life, and go on. But there's a lot who can't. And when they have to give up the ship, they got to be captain of something, every single day.
To compel the nation with challenge the traditional American doctrine of freedom of the seas, every man and every ship in the navy is solemnly pledged.
There's this misconception that the Navy is this cruise ship, and you get to go out and sail around, and every now and then, you have to swab the deck. But, no, it is a very impressive group of young people that live at sea, in this place that's very uncomfortable. They exude a pride that is well-deserved.
Life is like a ship. There's people dancing on a ship. There's a lot of money on the ship, but I cannot integrate on the ship or get equality on the ship. And I never could. I'm just in the galley working and I never could get up to see the captain of the ship.
What Mr. Muhammad says is, they should take their Navy and their - Merchant Fleet and ship us back where they got us.And that's not deportation, that's - returning stolen property to its proper owner. Now, since the government doesn't want to do that, then they - and they have already proven that they can't bring about peaceful relations on an integrated basis in this country, give us some separate territory in this country where our people can go and do something for ourselves. And provide us with everything that we need to keep that new territory going, until we are self-sufficient.
The sky was full of stars, and every star an exploding ship.
Set your course by the stars, not by the lights of every passing ship.
It's time for Black people to stop playing the separating game of geography, of where the slave ship put us down. We must concentrate on where the slave ship picked us up.
People say child stars have a hard time 'because of the entertainment business,' but I think there's a dysfunction before all that. I use the analogy, 'If you're a fool without money, you'll be a fool with money.'
The Navy's a very gentlemanly business. You fire at the horizon to sink a ship and then you pull people out of the water and say, 'Frightfully sorry, old chap.'
Doing one fool thing after another is not so terrible when you consider the human proclivity to do several fool things at once.
Every fool knows you can't touch the stars, but it doesn't stop a wise man from trying.
It was a civilian ship, and the Lusitania could outrun any submarine. So this population of people was very confident that Cunard and the Royal Navy would be looking after them. Why weren't they under convoy? That's the real question.
People have stars, but they aren't the same. For travelers, the stars are guides. For other people, they're nothing but tiny lights. And for still others, for scholars, they're problems... But all those stars are silent stars. You, though, you'll have stars like nobody else... since I'll be laughing on one of them, for you it'll be as if all the stars are laughing. You'll have stars that can laugh!... and it'll be as if I had given you, instead of stars, a lot of tiny bells that know how to laugh.
In the Navy, the captain doesn't leave the bridge when the ship is in distress. It's a pretty basic leadership principle.
Well, you know, I kind of lived my whole life with people, on a Navy ship, and I'm son of an immigrant. And we've all - really appreciate being able to make something clear in a simple way that families quite understand.
