I'm not going to have the TV personality and be like, 'There's no bitterness. There's no ugliness.' There's bitterness. There's ugliness. There's pain. There's greed. There's malice, and there's hurt. That's all good stuff for any kind of art. I'm not necessarily feeding that side of myself, and I try not to encourage it too much.
The ugliness of the beauty is much horrible than the ugliness of the ugliness.
Art is a course in personal development that has no reliable diploma and no known end. The pursuit of art instructs in beauty as well as ugliness, fantasy as well as common sense. Art levels souls and baffles brains. Art softens pain because it is pain. Art gives joy because it is joy.

If you chase a girl, the girl won't like you. Do your job simply, the girl will chase you.
When we are angry, our anger is our very self. To suppress or chase away our anger is to suppress or chase away ourselves. Art thou in misery, brother? Then I pray Be comforted. Thy grief shall pass away. Art thou elated? Ah, be not too gay; Temper thy joy: this, too, shall pass away. Art thou in danger? Still let reason sway, And cling to hope: this, too, shall pass away. Tempted art thou? In all thine anguish lay One truth to heart: this, too, shall pass away. Do rays of loftier glory round thee play? Kinglike art thou? This, too, shall pass away! Whate'er thou art, wher'er thy footsteps stray, Heed these wise words: This, too, shall pass away.
Angel away yeah strange in a way Maybe that is why I chase strangers away
People should not be responding to bigoted ugliness with any ugliness of their own.
In the matter of furnishing, I find a certain absence of ugliness far worse than ugliness.
Beauty in art is often nothing but ugliness subdued.
Our society can no longer tolerate ugliness. You see that in cars, sofas and women. [But] ugliness also has a right to exist.
I prefer ugliness to beauty, because ugliness endures.
What is commonly called ugliness in nature can in art become full of beauty.
I hate ugliness. You know I'm allergic to ugliness.
There's enough ugliness - you know, we got wars going on and people dying and sickness and everything. We don't need to have our art be ugly. But it is, in a lot of it. And these people justify this crap by saying, "Oh we're just representing what's out there, man". Basically, you're making it worse and number one, the artist's job is to elevate people and to lift people up and to give them a place to go, something to hold on to.
