I'm in a 'I can do whatever' phase. I'm taking this '106 & Park' opportunity into full force. I'm really focused on doing my best with it. This is my 'Fresh Prince' moment. I want to be the black Ryan Seacrest of film, TV, and more.
I'm coming for Ryan Seacrest - I want to be the black Ryan Seacrest for BET. I want to host, I want to produce, I want to do everything for the network.
We can't all be like Ryan Seacrest... the perfect platform manifestation of a human. I don't know if we all have those gifts for restraining our emotions... or whatever it is he does.
I'm not Ryan Seacrest. If I want people to pay attention to me, I have to just eat scorching-hot food.
There is so much I want to do in this world, and you only live this one life, and it goes by so fast. So I totally love to take up every second of the day doing what I love, being focused and driven and taking on a new opportunity or venture, or making sure the ones I already have are going to be the best ever.
Cause I want to be on 106 and Park pushing a benz
For Prince William, I focused more on doing a bad impression of a romantic lead than on Prince William himself.
The most frustrating part of working in TV and film is that you have to convince someone to let you make what you want; in comics you can do whatever you want and for 1% of the budget of TV and film.
I want to take Ryan Seacrest's job. I want his job on 'American Idol.'
Growing up, there was this explosion of B television. 'Fresh Prince of Bel Air,' you have 'Family Matters,' 'A Different World.' I had examples - of black children, black families, black women, black men - that represented who I was.
The problem when you edit a film together, when you shoot a film, you are drawn into the moment. You want each moment to be special and full of life.
Doing a TV show is different because it's more of a TV version of something. A more focused take on things.
I'm really grateful for the fact that I have full artistic control over my career. I can choose what film or TV projects I'm interested in doing.
I've shaken hands with every radio station, from Honduras to Ryan Seacrest's.
At the end of the day, I want to spend time with my daughter, and this schedule enables me to do that while still having fun hosting '106 & Park.' I'm not really eager to get back into music just yet; I'm really eager to get into another movie before I put out an album.

I grew up watching shows like 'Martin' and 'Fresh Prince' and 'Moesha,' and I was inspired by all these shows. When I was growing up, there were so many black people in TV. That's just the world I was around.
