I used to be able to sit in a chair and for four hours straight in a very focused meditative way be in my own world without ay interruption. And now it's like your brain is getting so trained to check your phone, and there is like a dopamine release every time you get a text whether it's a good or a bad one. I'm really worried about what it's doing to our minds.
The thing about being a parent it puts priorities in order. Thank God, you're not totally focused on yourself anymore. You get to put your energy out, as opposed to worrying all the time about your own stuff. It's such a relief, but when you think about it, it's like an extension of you. It's like a safer way; you feel less indulgent about it, but they are extensions of yourself, and I think you're freer to love them so unconditionally. That, we're not able to do with our own selves.
Much of the early work focused on dopamine and we were really looking for rewarding sorts of effects and sure enough, we only found that. But you can destroy the main dopamine-producing structures of the brain and you can still get an animal to self-administer drugs like cocaine.
You start doing your research and realizing that the fertility rate for women drops considerably. I think you can write very good comedy without a partner, but what I love about it, working with a partner, is that you get to places you'd never get on your own. I know what it means to sit in that chair for four or five hours. For me, it's actually thrilling because I get to know something that I'm not used to. The others do that every working day. It's a real commitment, not only in terms of acting in front of a camera, but just in order to get there.

You looked out the window. My brain has become less able to spend lengths of time without shifting, and I worry about that.
