The Who is one of my favorite bands of all time. 'The Who Sell Out' is one of the greatest art-project albums of all time.
So by the time the 60s rolled in that became a huge art form in its own right with bands like the Beatles and the Rolling Stones and Hendrix doing total concept albums, same thing with Pink Floyd.
In school, some of my favorite subjects... I mean, art was my favorite subject. I loved art! I used to go during lunch time to the art room and paint or draw or something.
Guy Picciotto had a really sound point: Live albums basically have bands playing songs that are available on studio records, and what example can you think of where the live album is better? What are the great live albums? I have live albums of bands, but I wouldn't listen to them for the most part. So we thought, instead of spending energy trying to puzzle out how to create a live record, let's just write another studio record.
I've heard that Oasis or Coldplay will sell tickets, but they can't sell records. They sold out Madison Square Garden in three hours. And they can't sell albums. I don't know what's going on.
There was a time when using TV to sell albums was frowned upon.
A lot of my favorite artists didn't sell much out the gate. I didn't with Common at first. Neither did first albums from Outkast, Nas, or Jay Z. It doesn't scare me.
I don't think that a lot of my favorite producers or bands would produce our albums or even play on them, unfortunately.
Aerosmith's 'Rocks' is on the list of my top favorite albums of all time.
My absolutely favorite time of working on a project is the time I spend not knowing what it is. Because the longer you live inside that period, the likelier you are to discover something new.
My favorite bands are Radiohead and Led Zeppelin, and all-time favorite album is 'Amnesiac' by Radiohead.
I'll say one of my all time favorite albums would have to be Willie Hutch, 'The Mack.'
I've always been a huge Butthole Surfers fan. The first time I saw them was in the early '80s when all they had out was their first EP. I thought they were amazing. They've always been a huge influence and one of my all-time favorite bands.
Fleetwood Mac is just one of my all-time favorite bands.
Bad Brains is one of my all-time favorite punk bands.
'American Idiot' is not only one of my favorite albums of all time, it's become an anthem of a generation.
It was pretty common to form bands that only lasted a few years. Slint was my favorite band that I was in at the time, and I didn't realize that I was bummed out about it until quite a while later.
