Ultimately, what you're feeding yourself has a bearing on how you're going to perform. — © Chris Smalling
Ultimately, what you're feeding yourself has a bearing on how you're going to perform.
My having won a gold medal in Beijing is not going to be an extra advantage. It does not have any bearing on how I perform in London in a year's time.
You do what you do - in the circumstances in which you find yourself - because of the way you are. So if you're going to be ultimately responsible for what you do, you're going to have to be ultimately responsible for the way you are - at least in certain mental respects. But you can't be ultimately responsible for the way you are (for the reasons just given). So you can't be ultimately responsible for what you do.
With actors, it's really about feeding them all the time. I don't get involved in their process. I try to do the opposite, feeding them, feeding them, feeding them, and you can see very easily how they react to it.
It's about how you handle yourself, how you take care of your business, how you present yourself in front of the team, how you hold other people accountable. And ultimately, performing.
You have to have something about you to perform in Scotland. I'm sure these foreign players are excellent but we don't know how they're going to perform.
I think football is a lifestyle more than anything. It's how you eat, it's how you sleep, it's how you conduct yourself. It's just everything you do you have to keep in mind, is this going to help or have a positive impact on how my practice is going to be, how my workout is going to be, how the game is going to be.
If you start spending big money, what you're ultimately judged on is how your buys perform.
I just knew that was what I wanted to do. I was going to perform as a singer; I was going to perform as a dancer, and I was, you know, going to do movies and be an actress. I was going to do it or die trying. That's what my life was

The way you look on the outside has a definite bearing on how you feel and see yourself on the inside.
Obviously when you challenge yourself you learn a lot about yourself, and ultimately you're going to get better in whatever field.
I judge how I'm going to fight by how I'm fighting in the gym, and that's how I'm going to perform.
On every level I have played I've heard, `Am I going to perform or not because of my size?' I think I have proved to people I can perform regardless of how big I am.
Practicing going over scenes and in front of the camera just to see how that feels, and then ultimately just finding a way to expose yourself to people. That's what I did.

I think it's not just about how you perform on the field, but how you hold yourself off it.
