Just because my characters choose not to react in standard, socially-appropriate ways - that does not mean they don't care. They just reject ordinary dramas.
In drama, the characters should determine the story. In melodrama, the story determines the characters.
Drama drama drama. The public wants it, so let them get the whole ugly mess. Why not?
