Human rights without responsibility, without a sense of decency, a sense of compassion, is not good enough for a society to flourish... We need to broaden our scope from the legalistic language to the language of the heart.
The essence of any religion is good heart. Sometimes I call love and compassion a universal religion. This is my religion.
I believe that to meet the challenge of our times, human beings will have to develop a greater sense of universal responsibility. We must all learn to work not just for our own self, family, or nation but for the benefit of all humankind. Universal responsibility is the key to human survival. I am convinced that human nature is basically affectionate and good. It's our responsibility to see to it that the good outweighs the evil and I am convinced beyond a doubt that today's Americans will do exactly that!
