Lovers of audio books learn to live with compromise.
I love audio books, and when I paint I'm always listening to a book. I find that my imagination really takes flight in the painting process when I'm listening to audio books.
My filmmaking education consisted of finding out what filmmakers I liked were watching, then seeing those films. I learned the technical stuff from books and magazines, and with the new technology you can watch entire movies accompanied by audio commentary from the director. You can learn more from John Sturges' audio track on the 'Bad Day at Black Rock' laserdisc than you can in 20 years of film school. Film school is a complete con, because the information is there if you want it.
When I'm in my car, I'm listening to books, audio books, always.
If you do it first class and you don't compromise values, and you don't compromise quality, and you don't compromise service, and you don't compromise cleanliness, then everybody else who is the competitor has got to play catch-up.
If you start with a compromise, you live with a compromise for a long time.
My platform has been to reach reluctant readers. And one of the best ways I found to motivate them is to connect them with reading that interests them, to expand the definition of reading to include humor, science fiction/fantasy, nonfiction, graphic novels, wordless books, audio books and comic books.
I love reading - inspirational books, leadership books, biographies. I exercise a lot and put on my audio book. Even If you would offer me a million dollars for my iPod I wouldn't give it to you, because I have some great things on it.
It's harder to make real audio than special effects audio.
I have an audio stigmatism whereby I hear things wrong - I have audio illusions.
If children live with hostility, they learn to fight. If they live with fear, they learn to be apprehensive. If they live with criticism, they learn to condemn.
They'd never been lovers, of course, not in the physical sense. But they'd been lovers as most of us manage, loving through expressions and gestures and the palm set softly upon the bruise at the necessary moment. Lovers by inclination rather than by lust. Lovers, that is, by love.
In between that time, I've done book narrating, you know, books on tape for Dove Audio.
I guess my guilty pleasure would be listening to the British audio versions of the 'Harry Potter' books.
There are three classes of men; lovers of wisdom, lovers of honor, and lovers of gain.
My books are offered through Podiobooks.com and the iTunes Music Store as free audio downloads. I don't sell them.
Libraries are where we learn that we can live our lives through books.
