I'm just a shade over 200 lbs., playing basketball with my son, running, hiking, swimming, and feeling way better than I did at 40. 50 doesn't feel so bad!
I like playing basketball and going to the gym. I don't box, but I'll ride my bike and go jogging or running in the park. Sometimes my lady and I go hiking.
I have gratitude. I know myself better. I feel more capable than ever. And as far as the physicality of it, I feel better at 40 than I did at 25.
I'm pretty fundamental when it comes to running. A basketball player doesn't practice his free throw shooting by doing slam dunks all over the place. He does it by practicing free throws. That's the attitude I take: You don't get better at running by doing everything but running. You get better by running.
I think my life actually changed at 40. That's when you realize you can't ride the fence anymore. You either have to get on one side or the other. I think some of my best years were between 40 and 50: I got my priorities straight and life is good to me now. It's only other people who say, "God, she's 50 years old!" as if I'm over the hill. I feel like I just started.
Some people make you feel better about living. Some people you meet and you feel this little lift in your heart, this 'Ah', because there's something in them that's brighter or lighter, something beautiful or better than you, and here's the magic: instead of feeling worse, instead of feeling 'why am I so ordinary?', you feel just the opposite, you feel glad. In a weird way you feel better, because before this you hadn't realised or you'd forgotten human beings could shine so.
Having my son, I mean, I feel already that it makes me a better actress. Just the feeling and the love that expands in my being is more than I ever thought possible.
I feel the same way about every album. I think it's better than the one before. I have a strong feeling that you can't put out a record until you hate the last one you did because you have to make it better.
You never feel better than when you start feeling good after you've been feeling bad.
In T20, even when you are sticking with the same processes you can just as easily go for 40 or 50 runs in your four overs as take two for 20. In those situations, you are bound to be upset even when the game is over but it is OK to feel you should have done better. It's such an unpredictable game.
I know people that was playing basketball better than me. If they were in the NBA, they could be All-Stars, those people. They just never had the opportunity to go play professional basketball in Europe.
Anything that's outdoorsy and fun, like hiking, biking, running, paddleboarding, swimming in the ocean... and then I'll mix in Pilates, yoga, spin, ballet.
I always think of shade as being full of light. That is why I like to use the word shade rather than light and shadow. Shade seems to play over the thing, envelop it, better define it, while shadow seems to fall on the thing and stain the surface with darks.
I'm not going to be 50 and playing. I hope I'm 40, but 50, no.
Playing regular first-team football is a massive carrot as I have been in the reserves for two or three years. I'm used to playing in front of two or three hundred people and now I could be running out in front of 40,000 or 50,000.
I was being hated for about 40 or 50 years by the whole world, but it did not destroy me, and it did not ruin my health. And the reason is because I just did not answer them. I had my own life.
I meet a lot of characters in the islands, people who're running -- who're happier on a fishing boat than they are back home. When I first got down there,I don't know if I was running from a real bad heartbreak or running to something I thought would make me feel better. But since I've been spending time in the Caribbean, I've come to realize that I've got nothing to run from.
