Well I've been playing an SG forever, and I've got some other vintage Gibsons I like to use in the studio.
I don't use any real vintage hardware any longer. That's always been the object as far as gaining control of the studio environment, going back to when I built my first studio, Secret Sound, in New York City. The whole point was to not have to pay studio bills anymore and not be looking at the clock.
Certain kinds of typeface design and typographic design are designed to persuade: we can make this company look modern if we use a crisp sans serif typeface, or we can make this restaurant look like its been around forever if we use typefaces and layout styles that have been around forever too. But there are other categories, and ballot design is one of them, where the goal should be to be purely functional. There have been notable failures in this category.
I do take a computer to do some processing live and I might use a couple of plug-in synthesisers, 'cause obviously you can take quite a lot of power in terms of sound generation on a computer that I can trigger from a couple of keyboards. And it means I don't have to take some of my vintage stuff and have it trashed by various airlines which has happened in the past. But I still take some vintage stuff with me, I'll take that risk because I like using all that stuff.
Of what use is the universe? What is the practical application of a million galaxies? Yet just because it has no use, it has a use - which may sound like a paradox, but is not. What, for instance, is the use of playing music? If you play to make money, to outdo some other artist, to be a person of culture, or to improve your mind, you are not really playing - for your mind is not on the music. You don't swing. When you come to think of it, playing or listening to music is a pure luxury, an addiction, a waste of valuable time and money for nothing more than making elaborate patterns of sound.
I've always stuck with Gibsons. I've had Guilds and Fenders, too, but I always wind up going back to Gibsons.
I will say, I quite enjoyed 'SG-1'. I'm a very big fan of 'SG-1'. I especially love Ben Browder. I thought he did fantastic work in that.
I like vintage stuff. I go through a vintage store and find things that I feel like I fit right into them because of all the years that they've been used.

I find some really cool, unique stuff in vintage shops. The good thing about vintage if that it doesn't quite fit you can customise it, like, make it shorter. The shorter the better!
There's nothing wrong with going out and playing for the fans that have been with you forever. I get it. It looks like a lot of fun. But that's not the thing that drives me. I already did that, and I appreciate everything I got from it, but I want to do something new and fresh.
