Whatever play's called I just go out there and do my best.
It can be hard to keep that mentality but I know that to play your best you can't be worrying about getting dropped, because then you just go into your shell even more and play safe. I've just got to come out and play how I know I can play - that's the way that you get the best out of yourself.
I want to be the best, so whatever accolades come with that, I've just got to go out there and keep continuing to prove my play on the field.
It's just part of whatever motivates guys and whatever they say. Ultimately it comes down to how well you play. What I've learned over the years, a lot of guys talk. My dad is really old school: "Whatever you do, just be the best at it." He didn't really care if I was a plumber or a roofer. It didn't matter what I did. He said, "Go out and find out what you like to do, and be the best at it."
You practice, you prepare, just go out, and let it flow. Just go play ball. You have to go out there and play loose and play free.
Whatever play is called, I go run the route.
My life is not a political campaign. I just write about what is on my mind. I just play whatever I feel like playing. Whatever is in my soul at the time is what I want to do. I have, thank god, enough people who are still interested in what I am doing so that I can go out and keep doing it.
If you have music you want to play that no one asks you to play, you have to go out and find where you can play it. It's called do or die.
Some people are called to be a good sailor. Some people have a calling to be a good tiller of the land. Some people are called to be a good friend. You have to be the best at whatever you are called at. Whatever you do. You ought to be the best at it – highly skilled. It's about confidence, not arrogance. You have to know that you're the best whether anybody else tells you that or not. And that you'll be around, in one way or another, longer than anybody else. Somewhere inside of you, you have to believe that.
Whatever my role is, I'm just going to go out there and do it to the best of my ability.
My job is to go out there and just, with whatever I got that day, just give my team the best chance to win.
I just go out and play my best tennis.
