I write about the things I feel strongly about. — © Dido Armstrong
I write about the things I feel strongly about.
Feeling is always first for me in anything. I think the only way for sure that I know how do that is to write songs about things I feel strongly about.

When we put the pen to paper, we articulate things in our life that we may have felt vague about. Before you write about something, somebody says, 'How do you feel?' and you say, 'Oh, I feel okay.' Then you write about it, and you discover you don't feel okay.

I think what's so great about TV is I don't know if all these things were planned at first, or if they see the fans' reactions to things. They really do listen to what the fans want, and feel strongly about, and push for, so all these things are happening organically.
I like to write about things that are extreme in some form. I like to write about something I feel I have to write about.

If I come across an issue, or something I feel strongly about, and I happen to think of a song that would go in that direction, then I do it. But that's not what I start out, necessarily, to do. Sometimes I may have an idea for a song - "Well, I'm going to write about a thing.
I've always wanted my lyrics to say something meaningful and, you know, you always want to tell a message with your art. So yes, as I continue to write music, I will write about things that are real and things that I feel aren't written about a lot.
It's better to write about things you feel than about things you know about.
I'm not afraid to use my platform. I don't want to preach to people; I just want to put my opinions across about things I feel strongly about.
