Italy, my Italy! Queen Mary's saying serves for me (When fortune's malice Lost her Calais): "Open my heart, and you will see Graved inside of it 'Italy.'"
I can still remember watching Italy win the 1982 World Cup. I was just an eight-year-old kid in Naples, my hometown, watching the games with a bunch of people in the houses of relatives and friends. Italy will start the future. Because in the last 20, 20 years, Italy discussed only about the past. "Oh, the past is wonderful in Italy." Look, look Palazzo Vecchio. The most beautiful place in the world, in my opinion, I think this is incredible place. But the past is not sufficient. Is not enough. We need the future. Because we are Italians. And Italy is not only a museum.
When I was in Italy in the 90s, early 2000s, everybody wanted to go to Italy, all the players.
I first think of intelligence. You need it for surviving in Italy because Italy is so pompous.
For us to go to Italy and to penetrate into Italy is like a most fascinating act of self-discovery
I love Italy and I say I am from Italy wherever I go.
Extraordinary scenes there at the end. I think some of the crowd chanting 'Italy! Italy!' were actually Irish.
'Made in Italy' is from the tycoons of the '80s, not me. It is people who represent an Italy which I don't belong to and I don't feel a part of.
