Discord oft in music makes the sweeter lay. — © Edmund Spenser
Discord oft in music makes the sweeter lay.
As some to church repair, Not for the doctrine, but the music there. These equal syllables alone require, Though oft the ear the open vowels tire While expletives their feeble aid do join, And ten low words oft creep in one dull line.
Oft expectation fails, and most oft there where most it promises; and oft it hits where hope is coldest, and despair most fits.

I'm really excited to share the movie [Swiss Army Man] with people, so I'm glad that people are seeing it. And I want them to, because I think it's a really fun movie to experience sitting next to people. It makes it funnier. It makes it more comfortable. It makes it sweeter.
The older the violin, the sweeter the music.

Oft have I heard that grief softens the mind And makes it fearful and degenerate.
And if there is sweeter music this side of heaven I haven't heard it.
Oft, as in airy rings they skim the heath, The clamtrous lapwings feel the leaden death; Oft, as the mounting larks their notes prepare They fall, and leave their little lives in air.

Obviously, because it is more salient, you know? We might like going to the movies, and of course we like music too, but when the eyes don't work then the ears pick up slack. Music is all the sweeter at that point.
An occasional foray into negative emotions makes feeling normal that much sweeter.
Failure makes success so much sweeter, and allows you to thumb your nose at the crowds.
Sometimes a pinch of sadism is the ingredient that makes victory taste that little bit sweeter.
I know [canned music] makes chickens lay more eggs and factory workers produce more. But how much more can they get out of you on an elevator?
