By the time I came to the States, I really understood how a magazine works. I came to 'Vogue' as creative director, and three years later I went back to London to be editor in chief of British 'Vogue.'

Now that I'm in the modeling industry, I'm taking reading magazines seriously. I read the Vogue magazines. I make it my homework. I try to study the designers and the stylists when I have time, because I wasn't brought up in a household where I was surrounded by fashion.
I think about where I grew up and how I grew up: my dad was making $25,000 a year. Taking a chance wasn't really taking a chance. It was like you were going for something better. To me, there wasn't that much risk involved.
And I grew up watching all the British ones so when you hear that from an early age, it makes it much easier than you guys who don't grow up with Australian television or British television.
