As much as football can cause war, it can also cause peace. Football is a kind of Geiger counter of civilisation, or a catalyst for good as well as bad. — © Elfriede Jelinek
As much as football can cause war, it can also cause peace. Football is a kind of Geiger counter of civilisation, or a catalyst for good as well as bad.
A good cause can become bad if we fight for it with means that are indiscriminately murderous. A bad cause can become good if enough people fight for it in a spirit of comradeship and self-sacrifice. In the end it is how you fight, as much as why you fight, that makes your cause good or bad.
There are no good wars or bad wars. The only thing bad about a war is to lose it. All wars have been fought for a so-called good Cause on both sides. But only the victor's Cause becomes history's Noble Cause. It's not a matter of who is right or who is wrong, it's a matter of who has the best generals and the better army!
Indeed I am inclined to go so far as to say that the one cause for which one may properly make war is the cause of peace.
Counter football is not something weak teams only can do by the way. It is sometimes said in a way as if counter football is inferior. It's not.
I've always been a square, a nerd. Kind of odd, kind of awkward. I still am to this day. People just think I'm a lot cooler 'cause I play football.
I wasn't scouted in the mall as a kid; it just kinda happened naturally 'cause of Instagram and New York and being visible, which is cool. Things just started rolling in. Timing was in my favour 'cause the Internet acted as a catalyst for the fashion industry to change and be more open 'cause people demanded it.
For a long time I wasn't listening to music, to the rock and roll stuff on the radio, because it would cause me to get sweaty. It would bring back memories I didn't want to know about, or I would get that feeling that I'm not alive 'cause I'm not making it. And if it was good, I hated it 'cause I wasn't doing it. And if it was bad, I was furious 'cause I could've done it better.
Is it not better for a man to die for a cause in which he believes, such as peace, than to suffer for a cause in which he does not believe, such as war?
We must be prepared to make the same heroic sacrifices for the cause of peace that we make ungrudgingly for the cause of war.
If people are just trying to find things we get wrong or whatever because we're not doing enough facsimile of football, well, if you want a really good facsimile of football, what you should check out is football.
Because one cause is bad does not make the opposing cause good.
Well, when you're playing good football, it's good football and if you don't have good football, then you're not really playing good football.
We are all ready to be savage in some cause. The difference between a good man and a bad one is the choice of the cause.
Football's football. You're going to come across the good and the bad, but you've got to take it all in your stride.
It doesn't matter how I'm asked to play, or if the football is good or bad: I like football when I'm on the pitch, not when I'm on the sidelines.
If I could cause world peace by taking someone out to lunch, I'd go, 'Well, war isn't that terrible.'
