In those days, I did what was necessary for me to win. This included training with heavy weights: a precursor for injury. In the central cases of physical pain, then, it appears that at least part of what is bad about our condition is the way it makes us feel. Survivors have a difficult time expressing their feelings. They are more accustomed to minimizing their pain and hiding how they really feel, both from themselves and others.
