It was very hard leaving the people I was very close to. But you also have to value opportunities that come. I had a strong mindset to withstand that and come alone to Spain.
I expect people that come to the studio to work to come with the same energy I come with. If I see less than that, I get very strong about, if you want to do this, come with a sense of pride, come with eagerness and anxiety.
I feel a very, very strong bind, and really I'm bound to this country, we either have a border or we don't. People can come into the country, we welcome people to come but they have to come in legally.
I went back to work right away [after prison]. I was very lucky — a friend of mine created a job for me at his company. Most prisoners who come home face really significant challenges when it comes to finding work. It’s very, very hard for most people who have a criminal record to get a job. I think the system is very wasteful of taxpayers’ dollars. It’s also very wasteful of human potential. I found that most people whom I was locked up with were, you know, good people who have skills and value. Prison is a missed opportunity to nurture those things.
Leaving my first agent was both my best business decision and my worst business decision. It depends on how I want to look at my career because of opportunities that may have come had I stayed with him and because of the opportunities that did come because I had to fight harder for roles.
The people who come across the border are hard-working family people. They have great values, and that's all well and good but they are also very, very consistent Democrat voters.
My contribution I hope is to get people to eat full-flavored food. If I could come away with that alone, that would be a fantastic accomplishment. I'm also very proud of being a very American chef.
I think life is very, very, very hard, and I've never had anything come super easy to me, no matter what people may think.
Culture is about the mindset of people, and we are very happy to have a strong combined mindset of people.
I've been very lucky. I come from a very close family. I'm also in a relationship that's been really good. Lasted a long time. We've got wonderful kids from that relationship, and they've had the benefit of being together. It's fantastic to have that sort of togetherness. It's a rarity these days.
We had a lot of close games; we were losing games. Failing in those opportunities - when the game was close? And we needed a bucket or a stop? I wasn't able to come through. It's just... something that you get comfortable with as time goes on. You're OK with failing, as long as you're trying as hard as you can.
I think generally the heads of terrorist groups are very, very smart people. They're also great manipulators. I would presume that cult leaders are identical. These sort of individuals are very strong, they have very strong charisma.
I definitely have not had a linear path. I have had more of a path where I've meandered with a sense of purpose. Really, what that means is it's about being true to your convictions and your passions but also leaving yourself open to opportunities when they come along.
The thing is with boxers we don't come from Cambridge and places like that, we come from council estates. So in boxing it's very, very hard.
I'm very blessed and appreciative of everything that's happened, and I'm just working hard for more opportunities to come.
I take advantage of the opportunities that have come my way. I think I've lucked out that I've never been thrust in the spotlight where people wanted to dissect every aspect of my life. I've been given a lot of distance and respect. It's allowed me the best of both worlds. I have the job of my dreams, but I also have the freedom that doesn't always come with it. I feel very lucky in that sense.
It's a different mindset. Coming from where I come from, we always had to defeat the odds. We didn't have what other people had. We had to work twice as hard for everything. To be noticed to be seen. Even back then it drove me to be the best that I can be. I wanted everyone to know I was somebody you had to watch.
