A Quote by Erskine Caldwell

Influence is a very tenuous matter. I try to avoid it in every respect. I don't want to be influenced by anybody. — © Erskine Caldwell
Influence is a very tenuous matter. I try to avoid it in every respect. I don't want to be influenced by anybody.
One must pass through the network of influence. One is obligated to be influenced, and one accepts this influence very naturally. From the start, one doesn't realize this. The first thing to know: one doesn't realize one is influenced. One thinks he is already liberated, and one is far from it!
What I do try to do is just stay away from other people's work, because they might influence you too much in a level that you don't want to be influenced in. And you don't want to look somebody else, you want to look like yourself.
Who influenced you? When did they influence you? How have they influenced you? What have you done with their influence?
Espionage is never a laughing matter. And in fact, this is not a political issue. I don't want to get this confused with the back and forth we might have about economic issues or anything else. This is a matter of national security now. And I find it very frightening that Donald Trump is encouraging any foreign power to breach a campaign and try to influence the outcome of the election.
Every single day in a marriage, we influence each other. It is a matter of am I going to have a positive influence or a negative influence?
Three 6 Mafia have been around for a long time; we've made a lot of music. Anybody's music can influence anybody. I've heard people say that our music has influenced such and such, and it could be true, and it could not.
You don't try to get influenced by everything that's going on with all the other music around you. You don't listen to the radio - I mean, I don't. When I get ready to do an album, I don't listen to anybody else; I don't wanna be influenced.
We're in the business of influence. And if we're going to be in partnership with anybody, I want it to be with people who have amazing access and influence.
I don't care about the respect of the press or the public or anybody. Whose respect every day I'm trying to garner is the respect of my children and my grandchildren and my friends, the people I work with.
I try to avoid describing one interpretation of my books. Of course I have an opinion. I have things I want to say, but I don't ever want to limit anybody, to have them say, 'Oh, he said this, so that's what it's about.' I'm happy people bring their own stuff to it.
I want every man on the force to try his best, his level best, to try to avoid arresting anyone. I know that this going to take great will power but try.
I try to very hard to avoid a situation where I would be eating cat or dog; I've managed to gracefully avoid that. It's hypocritical of me and an arbitrary line, but one that I have managed to avoid crossing.
I take every opportunity to articulate to others the ways that they have blessed and influenced me. I hold sweet memories of making the opportunity to thank teachers who have influenced me. I encourage everyone to seize opportunities to tell people who have made a gift of knowledge or influence.
Any set of decisions about design is inevitably influenced by cultural prejudice, no matter how intent an architect might be to avoid it.
What they don't realize is that I'm not in the business to make clothes. I'm not in the business to make more money for myself, for Christ's sake. This is the reason Patagonia exists - to put into action the recommendations I read about in books to avoid environmental collapse. That's the reason I'm in business - to try to clean up our own act, and try to influence other companies to do the right thing, and try to influence our customers to do the right thing. So we're not going to change.
I used to watch everybody's stuff, but I found I would get slightly influenced by the other comics. I try to avoid it now.
