If I can go compete with the young guys during training in the offseason, I should be fine during football.
I think the offseason, it's an offseason, but it's where you can excel and where you can pass guys. It's something I always take super serious.
Young guys should focus on maintaining their football position. Coaches always say the lowest guy wins. I'm a taller guy and a bigger guy, but because I'm always in a great football position is why I think I'm able to get away from guys still. It gives me a chance to recover.
Larry Fitzgerald is one of the hardest-working guys I've ever seen. We spent some time training in Minnesota last offseason, and to see what he does to get better, he has to be the best.
It's really nice to be able to go into the offseason and attack the training as soon as possible.
Coming into the offseason, when I'm training, when things get hard, I know there's guys that are across the country, training and trying to be the best in the country and trying to be the best in the world. So that just motivates me to just keep going and keep working.
There are inherent risks playing football, but I think the guys understand it, and the guys not willing to take the risk, who are retiring, that's fine.
Training camp gets long when you compete against your own guys.
I always took my workouts serious because I have a football background. I came from football, so when I got to baseball, I continued my football workouts in the offseason.
Once you look up, and it's Week 14 or 15, and it's crunch time, you can't all of a sudden turn on a switch and say, 'Hey guys, we have to step up and be brothers, be family.' That's stuff that is developed in the offseason, training camp, or throughout the season.
I train with young guys in the offseason just to be honest and keep myself sure, to let myself know if I'm ready or will I be ready.
When guys are in NXT - not me, but the guys who are signed to developmental deals that are there - they're setting up the ring. They're tearing it down. They're working every day at the PC. And it's arduous training, man. Those guys go through a lot.
We all laughed. It was more like that whole thing that I was talking about earlier. You go to training camp and after the season is over, you might not see the guys for six months until you go back to training camp.
I lift weights in the offseason about four times a week; during the season, I'll lift three times a week. The weight training is key because most guys come in during the summertime as strong as they are going to get, and they fizzle down as the year starts.
I don't have no issue with any guy. I'm a football player. I'm a competitor. When we're in the field, we're going to compete and be competitive. It's not personal between none of these guys. It's all in the game.
Young women should be telling stories of other young women. And if the superstar who is an amazing storyteller isn't a writer, that's totally fine, but we should get a young female writer in the room to work on that song with us.
If you take guys that love the grind of football and who are passionate about football, it should click regardless if they have the proper talent.
