For a short period of time, I was like, I have these jokes and if people get them, they get them. And then eventually, I was like, Oh no. It's absolutely my job to convey to people why what I think is funny, is funny. The whole point of standup is to get the audience to understand your weird point of view.
And I tell my audience, you know, give the real stars a round of applause. Because without them I'm nobody. So I learned so much from people like that.
I really like intimate venues because it feels like everyone in the audience is in on all our inside jokes. We could say things and people will catch them. I think you have to do the stories that interest you and hope an audience likes it, rather than doing stories that you think the audience will like, whether you like them or not. Sometimes, comics will make the observation that it's not jokes that are funny, it's characters that are funny. And isn't that true! That's why I always kill jokes. I'm terrible at them, because I get the joke right, but I can't get the character right, and it just goes down like a lead balloon.

Being in front of a live audience is like taking an steroid shot. The applause, the claps in each and every dialogue , people being mesmerized by the performance, and the standing ovation is unparallel. This kind if a feeling you can not get in any other medium!
A lot of people get into stand-up as a back door into acting or something. But I really like writing jokes and telling jokes.
