It's just incredible how people come up to me and say, 'Gabby, you inspire me to do anything I can set my mind to.' It's truly an honor. — © Gabby Douglas
It's just incredible how people come up to me and say, 'Gabby, you inspire me to do anything I can set my mind to.' It's truly an honor.
The only people that come to my mind in the last years are Lee McQueen and John Galliano. Truly, truly . . . How do I say? Full of ideas. Full of the smell. They just had this incredible passion for what they did.
The oddest thing to me has been when people come up to me, and they don't say anything, and they just put their arms around me and hug and kiss me. They don't even say hello! They just freak out like they've seen a unicorn.
I come from nothing, and growing up, I really didn't have many people to inspire me, at least no good people to inspire me.
My parents inspire me every day. They are both incredible people that I love and look up to every day. Industry wise, I love what Justin Timberlake has done with his career. He's truly an idol to me, not only as a performer, but as a person as well.
I can tell you, I was in Seoul, Korea, and I had people come up to me in the airport and say 'Congratulations on your induction into the WWE Hall of Fame.' Of course, I can go to Garden City, Kan., and get the same kind of reception. It truly is an honor.
People who have come from nothing and started their own business or opened up a whole new niche in a particular industry, they truly inspire me.
Becoming a CoverGirl is truly an honor and a gift. It opens up a new platform for me to inspire women to feel stronger, braver and more beautiful inside and out.
I guess because of my act, people think that I say things they want to say, and that they can just come up and say anything to me.
I believe it's time that women truly owned their superpowers and used their beauty and strength to change the world around them. Becoming a CoverGirl is truly and honor and a gift: it opens up a new platform for me to inspire women to feel stronger, braver and more beautiful inside and out.
Even my bio on Instagram is like, 'That girl that fell at the Olympics.' Just as a joke. Because that's how people come up to me and that's what they say. That's how they remember me.
My daddy always told me to just do the best you knew how and tell the truth. He said there was nothin to set a man’s mind at ease like wakin up in the morning and not havin to decide who you were. And if you done somethin wrong just stand up and say you done it and say you’re sorry and get on with it. Don’t haul stuff around with you.
Movies always are open to being remade because times change so much, and the tempo of movies changes. I think of it like a James Bond. They can have different actors play the same role... I've had people come up to me and say, 'We want to remake 'The Jerk' with so and so.' And I say, 'Fine.' It just doesn't bother me. It's an honor actually.
I know, for me, dance did inspire me. Not just in how I feel but that confidence of being able to hold myself and come into a room and just feel comfortable with my body and how I stand and how you present yourself and just how you wear clothes, even.
It took me a long time, not necessarily to come out, but to understand how I was feeling. It wasn't planned for me to come out with 'First Girl' or anything. I just so happened to have met my current girlfriend on the set.
My thing is when people come up and say to me good set tonight and I say you too and then you find out that person is not in any band. Happens to me a lot.
Don't come giving me, who's old enough to die and too near blind to create anything any more anyhow, a great big banquet that you eat up in honor of your own stomachs as much as in honor of me- who's toothless and can't eat.
