Being anonymous, I thought I'd just release the music and see what happens organically.
When I first released 'The One And Only' nobody knew it was going to be so big. I just thought, 'Oh, this is what happens when you release a record? Brilliant! Let's release another.'
I wanted people to just accept the music for what it is without any judgement and being anonymous was the best way to do that.
I'm all about what happens organically. If something happens, it was meant to happen.
You just do the roles that you want to do and that you're lucky enough to get cast in, and then eventually you have that career. I feel like you can't control it; it just happens organically.
Sometimes I get, "Have you ever thought about doing real music?" I like to think the music I do is real, it just happens to be funny.
You can only release music so often. You have albums and the whole cycles and everything like that, so covers are a great way to release music and new things before the next album comes out.
With any entertainment business, you sort of have to be OK with just going with it. I've learned very much to just go with the flow and see what happens with my life, and what happens happens.
I just wanted to release an album of piano music for music's sake. I'm not expecting to sell millions of albums. It's was just nice to be able to sit down at an acoustic piano and make some music.
We don't swim for the attention. We don't swim to be rock stars. There is something beautiful about being in an anonymous sport and being fairly anonymous. It enables you do something you love without any of the other effects.
I have always been anonymous, that is the position I should be. And it is hard to say why or how you did something, it just happens.
I saw lots of music devices. I loved playing with music devices. And like most of the world, I thought of a music device as a music device. Steve Jobs tends to look beyond that, and he doesn't see a music device as having any importance at all - how fast it is, how many songs it can hold, and all that - he sees music itself to a person as a being the important thing.
Most important to me is being able to release music and have an astounding relationship with whoever would be distributing the music.
It's just difficult to release music constantly while also constantly being on the road.
The function of music is to release us from the tyranny of conscious thought.
My mom, my father, my little sisters, and my brother - I don't got that much family. I'm not really a family person. I just do my own thing. But I've just been spending time with my mom, especially since the [September motorcycle] accident happened. I drive all the way down there to Georgia just to check up on her. You just get tired of being that person that you thought you were. I don't feel no different. I see the music, because I made it. I don't really see the fame.
It's great to be able to find a way to release your music and do what you want to do artistically and not have to just worry about being accepted by the major label industry.
