When I was sixteen I was terrified and I vowed never to surf waves over ten feet tall. — © Garrett McNamara
When I was sixteen I was terrified and I vowed never to surf waves over ten feet tall.
If a wig is funny when it's two feet tall, why not make it three feet tall? Or ten?
I was never over-weight, just under-tall. The correct height for my weight at the moment is seven feet ten and a half inches.
Other stories tell how I eat innocent newborns, how I’m ten feet tall, how I breathe fire and have great dragon wings. None of these are wholly accurate. I don’t have dragon wings, I don’t breathe fire, I’m only eight feet tall and I’ve never eaten a newborn that didn’t have it coming. My name is Mevolent. What’s yours?
I don't know a single person in life that doesn't have conflict. I don't really enjoy acting enough to not want to experience something that feels like it really affects things. It's like, if you were a surfer, would you want to surf where there was like two-foot waves, or would you want to surf on like ten-foot waves. To me, the more kind of dramatic stories are more exciting for me, to play with.
Every part of me is a surfer. I love surfing, and I love the waves that I surf. So that's the thing that I get excited about most: What kind of waves am I going to be able to surf? Am I going to be surfing alone, or will we be surfing waves that no one's surfed before? Second to that is photography.
I think we were born 6 feet tall and then started to grow from there. My dad's not particularly tall - only 5 feet, 11 inches - but his mother was almost 6 feet and straight as a ramrod: a German woman who used to scare the hell out of me.
I had a fear of being too tall because my dad is very tall, and both my sisters are very tall. And they're drop-dead gorgeous, but I just didn't know if I, as Storm, wanted to be 6 feet tall, 'cause I feel like that's pretty tall.
I just want to be able surf everything - from big waves to small waves.
Life comes at us in waves. We can't predict or control those waves, but we can learn to surf
I lived for big waves. It's where I felt comfortable and I could surf with ease. With smaller waves, it didn't feel as natural.
I'm like one of those little chihuahua's that thinks they're ten feet tall.
As I'd go out learning to surf, I'd feel the power of waves coming over my body. It's like you're with God.
Writing is pretty flexible work, don't you think? If you want to surf, you just have to get a lot done when the waves are lousy. That's what I'm always telling myself, anyway - write while the surf's down!
The first thing I do every morning is go online to check the surf. If the waves are good, I'll go surf. The beach is 10 minutes away.
For some people, 'ten feet tall' is just a metaphor. For me, it's more than twice my height!
I run Willow Management, which is the biggest agency for other short actors. We look after performers who are either under five feet and over seven feet tall.
