Whatever works for the piece I'm thinking about is the way I write.
It takes me a very, very long time to write a story, to write a piece of fiction, whatever you call the fiction that I write. I just go about it blindly, feeling my way towards what it has to be.
'Write what you know' works, but it's limiting. Write what fascinates you. Write what you can't stop thinking about.
I don't think about the styles. I write whatever comes out and I use whatever kind of instrumentation works for those songs.
