I do like to play and pass the ball. But first and foremost I see myself as a defender: blocking, tackling, heading.
Your run blocking looks pretty similar to what the pass blocking looks like when you're going with the play-action pass. So you really do have an opportunity to get really good at it quickly.
I'm a defender first and foremost, and if I'm playing right centre-half, I am even more of a defender than the wing-backs.
When I have the ball I try to see as much of the pitch as possible, and movement off the ball helps you see where to play the pass.
We want to play a really physical style ball, and so, for us tackling, we know we are shoulder-based tackling team, and we want to hit that strike zone just like you're throwing fastballs into that catchers' mitt just as hard as you can.
Defending isn't just about tackling and heading, it's also about getting the ball down and playing - starting the attack from the back.
I have to remember I am a defender first and do my job there first and foremost.
If we're sharing the ball and you pass the ball first, your teammate is going to pass it to you.
If my songs are being listened to between any other songs, that is awesome, and I'm glad people are getting something out of them. We go to countries like Germany, where I can't imagine that all of my fans are engaging with the lyrics first and foremost. I think they're catching a vibe, a feeling. I consider myself a lyricist first and foremost, but if you get something else out of what I do, that's fine too. I'm not sitting back and telling people how they have to take my stuff. We just want to play music, and hope that people like it.
I've always liked taking the ball out of defence and I will carry on doing that but at the end of the day I'm a defender, and that's what I want to be known as - a defender, getting in the blocks and the headers that people don't recognise I do, the dirty stuff that every defender should do and should be good at.
I am a defender, but I can play the ball. I have a good technique.
I think I've shown patches of being a good defender and then I've gotten lazy off the ball and you make a stupid play and you look like you can't guard anybody.
It's my job, first and foremost, to take care of the football. Guys work their tails off. That's Football 101. From the time you play youth ball to high school, college, pro, every level, that's the starting point for every quarterback. You have to take care of the ball.
You see what type of player I am, and you see a lot of that in leaders. Hopefully, you lead from the front and, first and foremost, play well.
I see myself first and foremost as a student of expression.
Not many know this, but in training sessions, I like to play in the center-back position sometimes. I think I'm good at that position, and my father used to be a central defender. Some people don't realize that if you play in that position, you can better understand how the defender thinks.
You need to beat a defender when you have the ball. You need to be able to successfully pass to a team-mate, and there are other attributes needed to be the complete player.
