It is an act of insanity and national humiliation to have a law prohibiting the President from ordering assassination. — © Henry A. Kissinger
It is an act of insanity and national humiliation to have a law prohibiting the President from ordering assassination.
I do not agree with the use of 'signing statements' to effectively act as a line-item veto, except when the President believes a law or a provision within a law is unconstitutional. In general, if a President signs a law, they are committing themselves to enforcing it. If they don't believe it should become a law, they should veto it.
Most legal scholars and historians agree that the Antiquities Act does not give the president the authority to revoke previous national monument designations, but a president can change the boundaries of a national monument.
President Theodore Roosevelt, who signed the Antiquities Act into law, created 18 monuments, including the Grand Canyon and Olympic National Park in Washington, totaling more than a million acres.
I didn't decide to run for president to start a national crusade for the political reforms I believed in, or to run a campaign as if it were some grand act of patriotism. In truth, I wanted to be president because it had become my ambition to be president.
Personal humiliation was painful. Humiliation of one's family was much worse. Humiliation of one's social status was agony to bear. But humiliation of one's nation was the most excruciating of human miseries.
People are tired of the humiliation that they don't want to be perceived as weak within the international community. And they are, therefore, actually quite grateful to President Putin for reinstating some sense of national pride.
In my opinion, assassination theories will continue to revolve around these assassinations as they have around several other significant assassinations in American history. The assassination of President Lincoln comes to mind.
The Patriot Act removed major legal barriers that prevented the law enforcement, intelligence, and national defense communities from talking and coordinating their work to protect the American people and our national security.
I hear Democrats say, 'The Affordable Care Act is the law,' as though we're supposed to genuflect at that sunburst of insight and move on. Well, the Fugitive Slave Act was the law, separate but equal was the law, lots of things are the law and then we change them.
[On President Kennedy's assassination Nov. 22, 1963:] Something dreadful is going to happen to the president today.
Whereas, the Senate of the United States, devoutly recognizing the Supreme Authority and just Government of Almighty God, in all the affairs of men and of nations, has, by a resolution, requested the President to designate and set apart a day for National prayer and humiliation.
When I mentioned about Adlai Stevenson, if he was vice president there would never have been an assassination of our beloved President Kennedy
The Withdrawal Agreement - Theresa May's flagship policy, devised and drafted by Brussels, endorsed and supported by the entire Government machine - marks the surrender and capitulation of our country. If it were to become U.K. law, it would represent a national humiliation.
If my holding out those berries was an act of temporary insanity, then those people will embrace insanity too.
Understand now, I'm purely a fiction writer and do not profess to be an earnest student of political science, but I believe strongly that such a law as one prohibiting liquor is foolish, and all the writers, keenly interested in human welfare whom I know, laugh at the prohibition law.
Since 2001, the Patriot Act has provided the means to detect and disrupt terrorist threats against the U.S. Prior to enactment of the law, major legal barriers prevented intelligence, national defense, and law enforcement agencies from working together and sharing information.
