I admire my mother for being a single mum. It's ridiculously hard.
Being a mother is the best thing that ever happened to me. Before you have your first baby you are a girl and then you become a mother. There is no transition into being a woman; you literally become a mum and being a mum means you always love someone else more than yourself and it is an unexplainable situation.

Honestly, I have s much respect for single moms or anybody who finds themselves a single mother, but to even choose to be single mother is just so courageous to me. It is such a hard job to raise a child and be everything to that child without a partner. It's just admirable and courageous and brave and every other valiant word I can think of. I don't know if I could do it on my own.

And many of those challenges are challenges that, if we all just got together and worked together and thought about it together, we could help solve.
I know it's hard being a single mother baby, he said, but we're talking fundamentals here. Homemade cookies are one of the best parts of christmas. It's an absolute fundamental.
When I had my first child, I went back to Ireland to live with my mother. So, a typical day there was me being a mother, with my mum showing me how to do things.
I was proud, excited and a little frightened. It was all taking off so quickly…the more successful the boys were, the further away from me John felt. I was getting used to being a mum, but most of the time I felt like a single parent…it was hard not to feel frustrated with being stuck at home. I loved Julian, but I knew that if I hadn’t had him I could have seen much more of John and that was hard…I felt shut off from the life he was living. After years at his side, I was excluded, just as it was all happening.
When I was growing up, I just saw my mother as a successful businesswoman and awesome mother, so I never really thought, 'I can't do it.' I saw how she worked hard, served clients really well, was a great mum to us.
My mum's father was a producer and her mother was an actress, so my mum was fully behind me going into acting.

My mum died when I was 14. That is a kind of strange age to lose a mother. John lost his mum when he was 17.
I'm not a single mum, I am just a mum.
