I'm all for players extending their careers, and I'm all for trying to be as healthy as possible for the playoff run.
You always see those players that are going to get that next contract based off of a playoff run. That's what winning does; that's what team ball does.
I think I'm realising that careers for tennis players are very short. On the women's side now, players are starting to peak later on, but the average age is about 31, 32 when you finish playing, so I want to make the most of it while I'm young, fit, and healthy. I don't want to waste any time.
We knew the European players that went to the NBA and had great careers, and we knew the ones that went and had terrible careers or finished early. We were prepared for a lot of criticism.
Looking at the players that are truly successful, you see the durability and long careers. Those are the players I respect and look up to. I hope to become a player like that.
I try to be as healthy as possible. But the problem for me is that I'm a huge foodie. I mean, I'm literally passionate about food. I love trying new restaurants, new cuisine. It just makes me really happy. So it's very difficult for me to eat completely healthy.
I'm trying to stay as healthy as possible but there's no pressure to be really skinny. No. That's just a bit wrong.
At the end of the day, my hat goes off to anybody trying to run for president, or trying to be president, because you're never going to please everybody, it's not possible.
Getting as much sleep as possible and following a healthy diet will stop you from feeling run-down if, like me, you're super-stressed.
I've always been able to stay focused on trying to recruit good players and trying to develop those players.
I care about this state... and I feel a responsibility to get things done. If we stay healthy and play smart we can be a playoff team. I think we're on the right track.
I was bankrolling the games, vetting the players, extending the credit. My life was really stressful.
I never want to see active or retired players ever struggle. The basic human being in me wants to see guys leave the game as healthy as possible.
Now in the U.S.A., a lot of great players come after their careers in Europe, like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Andrea Pirlo, great players.
I think obviously we need to work harder at extending the women's movement. How do women who have prepared for careers and have a child get back to the workplace and still fulfill maternal roles?
A winning model would mean trying to get the best possible players that you can, at whatever age they are; it doesn't matter.
If sports science really has a beat on what's healthy for the players, then they need to tell the league how many games that is healthy for players to play and then only play that many games.
