Spring Training is a fun time for me.
Spring training means flowers, people coming outdoors, sunshine, optimism and baseball. Spring training is a time to think about being young again.
I'm usually rough during Spring Training. My Spring Training numbers aren't very good, but I never expect them to be.
For some reason in Spring Training, everything just clicked. You don't try to do anything in Spring Training but get ready, but things fell into place.
Spring training is kind of my offseason. I'm preparing for the season, but the workload that I experience in spring is much lower than any other time of year. And so, I enjoy it.
I'm clean, I've always been clean. But it never ends. It seems like every reporter from last season to this season has reported and opened up a new can of (expletive). And I haven't even been to spring training. At least let me get to spring training and (expletive) up before you crucify me.
It's not a fun process. There is no need for the team and a player to be on opposing sides a week or two before spring training. It's good to be on the same page.
Instead of going to spring training, I went to basic training.
I'm really hard on myself as well, nothing is good enough for me in training. I always want more, I always want to give 100%. I use my training like a competition. I imagine these two girls next to me every time single time I'm going over those hurdles in training.
That's why, to me, Spring Training is so hard, because every time you go up there, there's a new pitcher, and you have to come up with a new plan.
This is my best time of the year (spring training). Heck, once the season starts, I go to work.
Until spring training in 1946, the only time I pitched was in 1945 in the GI World Series.
People who say spring training's too long, I absolutely disagree. I think it's the perfect length of time.
When I was young, it was fun being in the locker room and shagging balls in the outfield in spring training. But I couldn't keep my attention on the games for more than 30 minutes. I would sit there with my Game Boy the whole game.
I love better to count time from spring to spring; it seems to me far more cheerful to reckon the year by blossoms than by blight.
Through winter-time we call on spring, And through the spring on summer call, And when the abounding hedges ring Declare that winter's best of all: And after that there's nothing good Because the spring time has not come- Not know that what disturbs our blood Is but its longing for the tomb.
The best thing about football for me is the reacting. It's a lot of instincts. But training, for me, it's more for the meditating. And I spend more time training than actually playing football. So I get into that zone during training more than anything.
