A Quote by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

The connoisseur of art must be able to appreciate what is simply beautiful, but the common run of people is satisfied with ornament. — © Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
The connoisseur of art must be able to appreciate what is simply beautiful, but the common run of people is satisfied with ornament.
Unless you are a born connoisseur of art, you will not be able to judge by yourself why certain art is superior to other art.
I like art with a sense of humor. I don't have a huge art education to understand everything. I don't think that means that art has to be watered down to the lowest common denominator, though. I don't think you have to go to college to be able appreciate great art, but I like art that doesn't take itself too seriously.
What makes art Christian art? Is it simply Christian artists painting biblical subjects like Jeremiah? Or, by attaching a halo, does that suddenly make something Christian art? Must the artist’s subject be religious to be Christian? I don’t think so. There is a certain sense in which art is its own justification. They are done merely for ornament. ... the common people regard them as supernatural.
And it is a very beautiful idea, and possibly true, that a common man from Stratford with a common education was able to write these plays.

To know how to suggest is the great art of teaching. To attain it we must be able to guess what will interest; we must learn to read the childish soul as we might a piece of music. Then, by simply changing the key, we keep up the attraction and vary the song.
The truth is, anyone who puts so much of herself and her life into art as you do must naturally fear any failure in that art as a potential threat to your life.
