A Quote by John D'Agata

Inclusiveness isn't what I want to push back against. The obsession with facts is. — © John D'Agata
Inclusiveness isn't what I want to push back against. The obsession with facts is.
Facts are simple and facts are straight. Facts are lazy and facts are late. Facts all come with points of view. Facts don't do what I want them to. Facts just twist the truth around. Facts are living turned inside out.
If you learn life's lessons, you will do well. If not, life will just continue to push you around. People do two things. Some just let life push them around. Others get angry and push back. But they push back against their boss, or their job, or their husband or wife. They do not know it's life that's pushing.
Obsession is the single most wasteful human activity, because with an obsession you keep coming back and back and back to the same question and never get an answer.
If the facts are against you, argue the law. If the law is against you, argue the facts. If the law and the facts are against you, pound the table and yell like hell
That's the thing with top players, the higher you go up, the more you want. You want to push your body, push your mind, push what you want to get out of that particular season.
I think people do want to cut through the noise, and they do want straight shooters, and they want you to call people out on the facts when the facts are the facts.
When you push someone too far, they will push back and they push hard.
I hardly ever go back to Florida. It's really hard to go back. I mean, I hated it so much. I didn't grow up in a great neighborhood, and it puts me back in that feeling of, "I want to get out immediately." That was kind of the push and what still pushes me, that I don't want to end up back there.
The question is, What type of human do I want to be? How do I want to use my platform? Do I want to be safe, under the umbrella of my white privilege? Or do I want to push back and resist?
The lack of facts holds you back. The odds are stacked against a weak mind.
'Push back' is the word; that's what we gotta do against ignorance. I see so much of it, and it's dangerous.
My most favorite entrance music of all time... it's that, "You're my obsession, you're my obsession" song [Animotion's "Obsession"].
I want to get more comfortable being uncomfortable. I want to get more confident being uncertain. I don't want to shrink back just because something isn't easy. I want to push back, and make more room in the area between I can't and I can.
Purpose of counter-intelligence action is to disrupt and it is immaterial whether facts exist to substantiate the charge. If facts are present it aids in the success of the proposal but the Bureau feels … that disruption can be accomplished without facts to back it up.
What we need in Europe is to push back against the idea that religion is so farfetched that it's not worth talking about.
Many, and I think the determining, constitutive facts remain outside the reach of the operational concept. And by virtue of this limitation this methodological injunction against transitive concepts which might show the facts in their true light and call them by their true name the descriptive analysis of the facts blocks the apprehension of facts and becomes an element of the ideology that sustains the facts. Proclaiming the existing social reality as its own norm, this sociology fortifies in the individuals the "faithless faith" in the reality whose victims they are.
