I've always been willing to get on the ball when I play for England. I've never hidden, but I'm more relaxed; my decision making is better because I'm calmer. Technically, it's a different level in Spain, and I've had to bring myself up to that at club level.
The 'Downward Spiral' album was a record all about beating everybody up - and then 'Hurt' was like a coda saying maybe I shouldn't have done that. But to make the song sound impenetrable because I thought it was a little too vulnerable, I tried to layer it in noise.
I probably could have gone in depth about a lot of things, but then the album would've been longer. You can't have a short album when you're talking about suicide and cocaine. That's not going to be a short album.
