I do like when you find a true personal relationship with any of the characters, you like to make that honest connection. And every once in a while, there's that glimmer where you got that line in where something happens, where you get to really talk.
Before the fight I don't like to talk a lot of crap about my opponents, it's nothing personal, when it comes to interviews or anything like that. But once I get in there, I make it personal. This is my livelihood, my life is either going to go up or go down depending on what happens right here, so it's really personal. I make that guy my enemy.
Certainly if it's something you created, like Gargoyles was for me... on the one hand it becomes you and the other writers as well. Sometimes, when actors reach out to their characters, they're nowhere in sight. They need to find something inside of them. And then the characters are right there. As a director, I want them to find the character that's already inside them, instead of trying to manufacture or manipulate or make something up. That's not really honest or true.
I think people, if you really want to be happy, you have to find God yourself, and you're going to have to have a personal, one-on-one relationship and not look to get through these traditions or these rituals and all this crazy stuff when you could talk to him right here, right now, anytime, anywhere, any place, from any position.
