A Quote by Joyce Carol Oates

All that matters in life is forging deep ties of love and family and friends. Writing and reading come later. — © Joyce Carol Oates
All that matters in life is forging deep ties of love and family and friends. Writing and reading come later.
Family matters, friends matter, love matters. Those you love and who love you matter. That's what writing does - it allows you to say all those things.
I am in love with life. I think it's pretty awesome when you are engaged in it. I love my family and my friends, and that to me is the biggest...that's the love of my life are my friends and family and the experience that I get to share with them. It puts a smile on my face and in my heart.
I think that anyone who grew up reading and being taught the Bible, as I did, can't help but have their prose shaped by it later in life. I still have deep, almost primal responses to the language of scripture, and I think that comes through in all my writing.
I love the idea of the big life - the life that matters, the life that makes a difference. The life where stuff happens, where people take action. The opposite of the life where the girl can't even speak to the boy she likes; the opposite of the life where the friends aren't even good friends, and lots of days are wasted away feeling bored and kind of okay, like nothing matters much.
I have lots of friends, but I'm probably a terrible friend to all of them, even my family. I wouldn't be surprised if I found myself with no friends later on in life. My friends become my enemies.
You know, true love really matters, friends really matter, family really matters. Being responsible and disciplined and healthy really matters.
The only time I felt I was different was when one of my friends said, 'I hate reading' and I stared at her like, 'What kind of an alien creature are you?!' Because it was so incomprehensible to me that someone could dislike reading! That really started my desire to help other children love reading and writing.
My mother wanted my sister and me to live a normal life. I always picked friends who weren't impressed with my family ties.
The world doesn't go around on love between men and women. Lovers get very little done. But friends do. When you are past middle life - and I hope you have the rich experience of love along the way - don't think everything is all over. Don't regret the vanished cocktail when the stuffed turkey is about to come in. Flip out your napkin and bite into it! Friends you can gather around you in the later years of life are worth the whole thing.
It turns out that style matters in programming for the same reason that it matters in writing. It makes for better reading.
The Gruden and McVay family ties run deep.
After my 10th standard, my life took me into the world of cinema, but I never severed my ties with my love for reading.
I have always had someone in my life that I consider my reading mentor because I come from a family where reading was not emphasized or even approved of.
The length of one's days matters less than the love of one's family and friends.
THE WRITER can get free of his writing only by using it, that is, by reading oneself. As if the aim of writing were to use what is already written as a launching pad for reading the writing to come. Moreover, what he has written is read in the process, hence constantly modified by his reading. The book is an unbearable totality. I write against a background of facets.
The worst thing a man can admit is 'I'm not 100 percent fulfilled by my family.' But it doesn't mean he doesn't love his family. I love my family, but I still want to work; I still want challenges. It took me a while to fall in love with the responsibility of family life, and it was a deep thing when I did.
