I'd rather do theater and British films than move to L.A. in hopes of getting small roles in American films.
I'd rather do theatre and British films than move to L.A. in hopes of getting small roles in American films.
I started doing American films and TV before Priyanka, but of course I do small roles in big films, and I don't have the publicity machine working around me.
The problem with the British film industry is that it's really the American film industry, or a small branch of in lots of ways because of the common language. But it's great to see some individual voices still there. I think I probably gravitate towards a slightly more European, auteur model rather than the studio thing. I think it would be great if British films were a little bit more auteur driven.
When I began my journey in films, I never thought I'd be playing the lead in my films and was keen to move ahead with roles that give me scope to act.
Multiplexes are being very unkind to small films. They are giving a lot more space and value to the big budget films rather than distributing show timings fairly. But that fight will go on.
Though not into films, my family was associated with films. My grandparents financed films. They didn't like me getting into films. But, destiny willed it so.
I've sort of left the theater just for little shoots here and there - little one-off series or small roles in films or whatever.
The theater is a need for me. It's a terrible attraction, something I'm compelled to do. And one derives a form of nourishment from the theater which you can never get from films. Making films weakens you in some way. With the theater, the work itself is a regenerative process.
It wasn't just British gangster films that really did for me as a kid, personally, it was British films in general.
Some critic complained about how many small films are released in New York... it annoyed me. Those small films that are lucky to get two weeks are often my favorite films of the year.
I want to be remembered for my roles and films rather than my looks.
Well, I think by and large, certainly in terms of cinema, American culture dominates our cinema, mainly in the films that are shown in the multiplexes but also in the way that it has a magnetic effect on British films.
I choose my films in a way that helps me do justice to all of them. Also, I like doing time-consuming films like 'Baahubali'; it's sometimes more rewarding than doing lots of small films.
If you work with big stars, then they become the lead actors. It's not that I don't want to do films with big stars, but I would rather do the films where I get the title roles.
I would rather talk about films that I did than the films that I didn't do.
I enjoy making films. I have made all kinds of films, including action films, romantic films, period films like 'Kala Pani.'
