Growing up in Vermont, no matter what I did, I didnt get much recognition.
Growing up in Vermont, no matter what I did, I didn't get much recognition.
I didnt know any actors growing up. My dad was a builder, and we didnt know any arty types.
My friends ask me what it's like moving from Vermont to L.A., but no matter where I am, I pretty much just end up sitting in coffee shops, thinking about songs.
I live a fairly simple life, and that didnt change much after I sold TechCrunch in 2010. I didnt buy a new house or even a new car. The one thing I did splurge on was a boat. Nothing too fancy or large.
Just recently Ive learned to be okay with myself without wearing makeup. I think it was a special someone telling me that I didnt need it. I started taking care of my skin and realized I didnt need as much as I thought I did.
I grew up in Vermont, so we didn't really have a TV, growing up, or a football team.
Work hard, no matter how much recognition you get.
Its tough growing up where I grew up. My family is very small and really tight. Just being around the neighborhood, my brothers were always around. I didnt want to be in any trouble because I knew my mom or brothers would find out. I didnt want to hurt their feelings. I just tried to do everything right.
We were growing up in West Virginia. Everybody was poor there in the southern part of the state. It was like growing up in the Great Depression from the stories I hear people tell. Everybody was poor and so we didnt know that we were any different from anybody else.
Growing up in Texas, you were either pretty or smart. Smart didnt get you very far, because there werent too many job opportunities for women. I wondered why you couldnt be both.
I was living in a four-story Manhattan townhouse with three full-time servants and silver to be polished, and I was doing too much. My kids were growing up without me, and suddenly I thought, 'I want some other stuff.' So I stopped working instead of cutting back, and went to Australia instead of Vermont.
I didnt really watch Dallas growing up, as I was a bit young and into other things, like sports.
I played baseball growing up, second base, and then when I got to high school,it just didnt exist there.
Years ago, I was asked to come up to do a store signing in Vermont. The short version is the two younger guys who own the store pick me up at the airport and start driving me around Vermont, showing me the sights and the textile mills and the restaurants, and the punchline is there's no store. There is no store!
No matter who you are, you always want more recognition, but I'm grateful for what I do have, and I feel like I've earned it... So I'm going to continue to put in that hard work, and build relationships with people, and continue to grow as an artist... So hopefully from that, I'll be able to get more recognition.
Jesus Christ didnt commit the gospel to an advertising agency; He commissioned disciples. And He didnt command them to put up signs and pass out tracts; He said that they would be His witnesses.
