The externals are important but I'm not interested in superficiality. — © Kyan Douglas
The externals are important but I'm not interested in superficiality.
That's a very important thing in life, to be really looked upon for the qualities which you hold in yourself and not all of superficiality.
All the things you can talk about in anyone's work are the things that are least important.... You can describe all the externals of a performance - everything, in fact, but what really constitutes its core. Explaining something makes it go away, so to speak; what's important is what's left over after you've explained everything else.
I have things that I'm interested in, and I'm not really interested in writing about anything that I'm not interested in. But it's important to me to be able to see it from a different perspective, and add something new to the whole picture.
I'm not a designer who is very interested in baroque or in fantasy or in the fantastic side of fashion. This exists and this is important, but I'm interested in the very real dimensions.
We pay far too much attention to externals.
Everyone is interested in war, in that people don't want it to happen. I'm much more interested in peace than in war but it's important to understand why we fight.
It's phenomenally important to me that, if I'm going to be spending years on a project, I need to be interested in the whole thing. I'm not there to be on my own. And if I'm going to be with these people, I'd best be interested in their work.
I just do things that I'm interested in making and work with the people I'm interested in working with, and it's very important for me to maintain the creative control because, otherwise, I just don't want to do it.
Superficiality is the curse of the modern world.
The externals are simply so many props; everything we need is within us.
I'm not interested in painting; I'm not interested in making a picture. Then what the hell am I interested in? I must be interested in this process.
So much in writing depends on the superficiality of one's days.
The prime occupational hazard of a manager is superficiality.
When one maintains his proper attitude in life, he does not long after externals.
I write the shopping column. I think I've proven my superficiality.
You must renounce all superficiality, all convention, all vanity and delusion.
